Why did I choose the Xootr Scooter?

Several years ago, for Christmas, my family bought several push scooters, one for each of us. As I did my research on what make and model to get, I had in mind a few features. First of all I was looking for a brand that was inexpensive. Getting 3 at one time could have added up and our family was going through a financial rough spot at the time, so price was important. A recognized brand name was important, we didn't want to find something so cheap and unproven that we'd have broken scooters in a short while.

We ended up choosing the Razor brand. Lots of kids ride these so we chose 2 adult and 1 kid sized scooters.

Although the Razors were rattly and noisy, they got the job done. They allowed us to scoot as a family. We scooted all around San Diego!

However, after many scoots, the Razors started to show some flaws. These are really toys and the construction shows it. They rattle, shake and feel cheap, loose and wiggly. The headstock assemblies would sometimes become loose which made for difficult, unpredictable steering. After this happened several times, I started carrying around tools in case I needed to perform field repairs (which I had to do many times).

Many repairs later, one of our adult scooters "broke" in a bad way. It was the headstock assembly again. This time, it was near irreparable. I started to check online to see how much a replacement scooter would cost.

While searching for a new scooter, I came up with an idea to "fix" the broken one using glue and some hose clamps (really). I figured for a few dollars, I'd either fix the scooter or fail without a significant cost. I picked up some epoxy and hose clamps at the local Home Depot and attempted the fix.

The fix seems to be holding, and the scooter is still usable ... for now anyhow.

Still, my searching online led me to many reviews and recommendations of adult kick scooters. One scooter brand was mentioned again and again, Xootr. Why?

Several reasons, one is - SPEED: In an effort many viewed as overkill, the Xootr was designed by a team that normally designs race cars. The Xootr has ultra-glide polyurethane tires running on nearly frictionless bearings. These wheels give the Xootr the lowest rolling resistance of any small-wheeled vehicle and are the key to the Xootrs speed. The glide is several times better than in-line skates, skateboards, and pneumatic-tired portable scooters.

After spending HOURS researching, many reviews and testimonials led me to the Xootr Mg. A bit pricey for a scooter, but SO WORTH IT!

Another reason: Really well built. Does not feel rattly or cheap. Solid. Rides really well. Smooth and fast. Cast aluminum frame. They claim it will support 800lbs! My model (the Mg) has a nice wide, solid magnesium deck (yes magnesium). Front and back brakes. For the kind of riding I do, this is the perfect choice. I’m not interested in stunts or off road, more interested in distance and speed.

Most kick scooters typically have a rear fender brake. The Xootr also comes with a handlebar handbrake (just like a bike). I typically use the rear fender brake, but having the hand lever-brake on the handlebars is a nice touch.

It folds up to fit in the trunk of my Miata.

I LOVE riding this thing and believe it's one of the best adult kick scooter available. Solid, reliable and fast. This is not a rattly, noisy kid's toy. It's nimble enough to throw in the trunk of my car and ride on bike paths and sidewalks. I can cruise fast for a long way, savor my surroundings and get a great workout if I choose to do so. It gives me the freedom to easily explore places that are too far to comfortably walk in a short amount of time.

Xootr makes several models. Find the Xootr for you here!
