Crestline 2021

The COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020 had a significant impact on our recreational plans last year. At the beginning of the year, we excitedly looked forward to several excursions to interesting places. Of course our plans changed (as it did for so many people) as the virus swept on through. Many events were canceled, parks and recreation destinations were closed.

It's now the end of March, 2021 and some encouraging signs are pointing to a possible shift in the direction of the pandemic. Sandy and I are looking forward to the time that we can get our vaccinations.

I had some vacation time that I could use, but where to go? In steps Sandy to the rescue with a great idea. Her first step was to contact her friend from college who used to live in a house "up in the mountains" at a place called Crestline. The house is currently unoccupied and could be an ideal getaway hideaway. So Sandy inquired about her idea.

We got approval from her friend and thus the planning and packing began! Yayy!

Crestline is a little over 2 hours away from San Diego near Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear.

It's next to a placed called Rim of the World, aptly named for good reason!

Cool looking cairns that people had built.

We stayed at our getaway for several days. Enough time to explore hiking trails, biking and of course finding some Geocaches!

Selah, connected to my belt, ever pulling and searching for the lizard or squirrel around the next corner

We even ran into a bit of snow on the trail. Of course Sean found many opportunities to make snowballs and throw them at us.

Made it up to the Pacific Coast Trail

After a lot of hiking for her short little legs, Selah enjoys riding in her doggie backpack as we ride bikes around Big Bear lake.

As the sun began to set, I enjoyed the sensations of the wooded path. The smell of pine and the subtle sounds of birds and other wildlife were sublime.

It was a great getaway for a few days. We enjoyed our time away from the hustle and bustle of San Diego immensely.
