Coastal California Episode 1
The impetus for our trip came from the realization of an opportunity created from Sean's whitewater rafting trip with our church. Sandy first had the idea to take a day or two to visit Santa Barbara which I help evolve to "Let's take a trip up the coast to Monterey!"
The full route
Our last stop before heading up the coast was to drop off our dog Selah at Sandy's friend's house. Lisa has her own little cute dog, Everleigh.
Lisa recently started a small business creating beautiful works of art from washed-ashore beach items, glass, driftwood, sand dollars, etc.
Lisa does amazing work. Her pieces are in such high demand, she can't keep up with the orders. You can reach her at allwashedupartwork@gmail.com.
Our first stop was the Getty Center. An art museum complex housing some of the MOST amazing works of art. Other than parking, admission is, unbelievably, FREE! We highly recommend!
The architecture is just one outstanding feature of the Getty Center. The external walls are covered in a facade of Travertine stone: a type of limestone that is formed by mineral deposits from natural springs. Sedimentary rock, it can often contain fossils.

You should Gogh to the Getty Center to see beautiful art
Our next stop was Santa Barbara. We arrived later in the day and did a night scooter along the beach bike path. That night we found "Adventure Lab" Geocaches: those that don't have actual containers but instead provide locations where you must find the answer to a question (often on a plaque or signage) to get credit and score a "find". That night we found many in series called FunkTown.
